The Recording Studio
History
The recording studio was designed and calculated by the company “Akustik Buch” https://www.akustikbuch.at/ . It meets high standards for room acoustics as well as sound and thermal insulation.
After its completion in 1987, it soon became one of the most successful studios in Austria. As the house studio for Marcus Spiegel's GIG Records, it made a name for itself with clients such as Falco, Edelweiss, Bingoboys, Peter Rauhofer, Beat 4 Feet, Nina Hagen, Jocelyn Brown, Ludwig Hirsch, and Frank Zander.
Later, it also handled work for almost all major labels like Ariola, Warner Music, Sony Records, CBS, etc. Many music genres were represented, including jazz productions (Wayne Darling, Harry Sokal, Nicolas Simion, Wayne Brasel, Gerhard Graml, etc.), film music (Hugo and the Dear God, The Last Judgement, Kaisermühlen Blues, etc.) and classical music (Jörg Demus, Ernst Fuchs, Philharmoniker Schrammeln, Schönberg Choir, etc.).
Most recently, it was used for the self-production of the MonaLisa Twins (the two daughters of the studio owner) before they moved permanently to Liverpool to continue their international careers.
Since 2014, it has not been in use and is now being offered for sale.

Features
Sound Insulation
- A floating screed with electric underfloor heating in the control and recording rooms prevents sound transmission through the floor.
- A continuous room-in-room construction ensures optimal sound and thermal insulation.
- The window between the recording and control room consists of three heavy glass panes arranged at angles to one another, mechanically separated, providing excellent sound insulation.
- Soundproof windows in the control room.
- Soundproof doors with double rebates and double seals in the control and recording rooms.
- In the large recording room, two sound-insulated booths were retrofitted, allowing for the simultaneous recording of bands with optimal signal separation. These can be relatively easily removed if not needed, in favour of a single large recording space.
Room Acoustics
- The fundamental room dimensions were calculated by the company “Akustik Buch” to avoid standing waves and resonances and to enable a uniform frequency response in the decay. The rooms were subsequently measured, confirming the calculated specifications.
- In the recording rooms, one wall is designed with a three-layer, low-reflection build to dampen not only high frequencies but also mid and low frequencies.
- The ceiling in the large recording room is equipped with acoustic panels, each having a sound-damping side and a reflecting side. The room acoustics can be adjusted simply by tilting these panels.
- The ceiling of the control room also serves as an acoustic diffuser, preventing standing waves and supports a variable listening position.
Room Climate
- Oversized ventilation ducts ensure silent airflow with minimal turbulence and losses. Silencers prevent sound transmission in both directions through the ventilation ducts. The current AC unit needs to be replaced/repaired (it can be easily retrofitted to a modern air conditioning system with heat recovery). The ventilation ducts with silencers are already in place.
- Large windows in the control room, a window in the drum room, and large doors allow for quick and effective ventilation even without an electrical ventilation system.
- The electric underfloor heating provides a comfortable climate in all studio rooms. Due to excellent thermal insulation, it is also energy efficient.
- A huge side-benefit of all of the above measures is that the rooms remain largely dust-free.
Wiring
- 32 XLR sockets are integrated into the baseboards of the recording rooms and connected to the control room via floor-mounted cable ducts.
- Eight-core multicore cables for four separate 8-track monitor mixes are also installed.
- In principle, almost any desired wiring can be quickly realised through the continuous use of cable ducts.
Monitor Speakers
In the control room, two Tannoy coaxial speakers, specifically built for the space, are installed along with their amplifiers. The cabinets are equipped with wheels and can be easily rolled into the room after loosening a few screws if needed.
Miscellaneous
- Stage in the hall
- Complete JBL PA
- Mixing console with monitor system
- Various studio equipment
